Description:
Weston-super-Mare’s Helicopter Museum is to stage both an art exhibition and factual display from 01 February through to 22 July to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict.
The art exhibition, entitled Inscape Landscape, will feature brand new work by artist Rachel Lomas, reflecting upon the environment of the Falkland Islands and how it may have affected the progress of the war. Rachel says that she wanted to “interpret the conflict from a retrospective view point, examining the ‘Inscape’ of the servicemen involved and how they connected emotionally with the environment.” As part of her research Rachel interviewed veterans of the conflict to gain firsthand knowledge and a valuable insight into the mindset of the troops involved. The exhibition will include detailed pen and ink drawings, meticulous cut shapes and the diffused use of shadow imagery and Rachel hopes that the work will be thought provoking.
Alongside the art exhibition there will be a factual display created by volunteers at the Helicopter Museum in association with the North Somerset Modelling Society; the display will detail the various roles played by helicopters in the conflict.
In May the museum will be taking part in the Museums at Night 2012 campaign and will host a Commemorative Falklands Weekend featuring a military vehicle display, living history encampment and a display from the historical re-enactment society.
Admission the art exhibition and factual display is included in standard museum admission which is £6 for adults and £5 for children; family tickets are available.
