Our local sports teams
We are now way past half way through the season for Weston-super-Mare AFC in Blue Square Conference South and Hornets and Weston-super-Mare rugby teams. All are doing ok but can of course do better! Here's a synopsis for you!
Weston-super-Mare AFC: Considerable playoff potential
Currently 6th in Blue Square Conference South with 16 games left to play. They are 19 points behind league leaders (automatic promotion) Woking but just 2 points away from 5th position which is the last of the play off spots. A great 2012 winning streak was ended last week with defeat against Boreham Wood.
Weston-super-Mare RFC: Mid table finish likely
Currently 6th place in National League 3 South West and a mid table is all but guaranteed as their current 44 points sees them over 30 points behind the promotion places and ahead of the relegation spots. Their 2nd XV, United, are holding their own mid table in Tribute Somerset Premier following their promotion last year.
Hornets RFC: Title potential slipping from their grasp but our favourites of the big 3 for some silverware
After a tremendous start to the 2011/12 season in Tribute Western Counties North with 7 wins from 7, November came along and everything has gone tits up! Only 1 league win against Gordon League in the 6 weeks before Xmas saw them slip from 1st to their current position of 4th in the league. They are now back on a winning streak and host Barton Hill this weekend who they smashed 41-12 earlier in the season. Another win is predicted but watch out as Barton Hill beat leaders Chard last week.
